9. How Teachers are Using Technology at Home and in Their Classroom

http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2013/Teachers-and-technology/Main-Report/Part-1.aspx

This is an article about a study done by Pew Research and the study is about teachers' personal use and attitude about technology.  It discusses that younger teachers are the ones who say that they love new technology and is willing to learn about any new tools that they could use at home or in their class.  The article also states that over 98% of teachers use text messaging to communicate and the national average is only 80%.  There is also a graph that states the teacher use of computers, laptops and even I pods are much higher than the national average as shown in the graph above.  Overall it says that teachers are very willing to use technology in and out of their classrooms.

Personally I think it is great that so many teachers use so much technology.  I personally use my phone, desktop, laptop and tablet every day.  There are many great ways that technology can be used for in the classroom that it just would not make any sense to not use them.  There are many older teachers that I know who have been teaching for 20+ years that simply refuse to get a smart phone because they do not want to learn how to work something new.  That is a sad thing but it is true because I have seen it from personal experience by being a teacher's child and working in a school district for five years.
